MANILA — The police are working with the private security firm of an exclusive subdivision in Makati City to determine how a 25-year-old pedicab driver allegedly managed to enter the village and rob a 76-year-old resident.
The suspect, who is from Taguig, allegedly took around P40,000 worth of jewelry and P50,000 in cash from the victim.
“He is linked to the series of akyat-bahay incidents in other villages in Makati. We are now actively looking for him,” PNP Public Information Office (PIO) chief PCol. Allen Rae Co said.
Authorities are now coordinating closely with the subdivision’s security provider to review its security protocols and patrol procedures, including possible gaps that may have allowed the suspect to enter the village.
“There is always coordination between the police and private security force or security detail ng mga subdivision, but suffice it to say, alam naman natin hindi rin basta-basta pumapasok ang mga pulis sa private subdivisions na ganito,” Co said.
Co said private subdivisions have their own hired security forces, and police officers do not routinely patrol inside these areas unless called to respond to an incident.
“So ang ating kapulisan sa Makati ay nakikipag-coordinate na closely to identify ‘yung weakness ng physical security at ‘yung setup ng kanilang pagpapatrol sa subdivision,” he added.
The suspect has been identified and remains at large as authorities continue their search.

The recent robbery will also form part of the PNP’s continuing assessment of the security situation in Makati, particularly amid other recent crimes, including the shooting of a woman who was ambushed while inside her vehicle.

The PNP said unit commanders are regularly evaluated not only based on crime accomplishments but also on their ability to maintain peace and reduce crime in their respective areas.
“All our unit commanders are being assessed regularly at tinitingnan if there will be failure on their part in the implementation of the law, ay kasama ito sa assessment and sa evaluation ng kanilang performance,” Co said.
Police said the goal is to ensure that officers are deployed where they are needed and when they are most needed, and this will be considered in evaluating the performance of unit commanders.
