MANILA — The Ateneo de Manila University is still the leading Philippine tertiary institution in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
Ateneo in a statement said it has maintained the position for five consecutive years already, and the 2027 edition of the London-based publisher ranked the Jesuit-run university in the 1001-1200 bracket globally.
It has an overall rating of 33.3-36.3, according to data released on Wednesday, September 30.
Five other Philippine education institutions were ranked in THE Rankings, including the University of the Philippines (1201-1400), University of Santo Tomas (1601-1800), De La Salle University and Mapua University (both ranked 1801-2000), and Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (2001+).
The rankings is based on five core criteria: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook, and Industry.
"We use 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments," THE Rankings said.
Of the five core criteria, Ateneo had its highest score in Research Quality, at 66.9, the university said.
Since the 2024 edition of THE Rankings, Ateneo said has maintained its place in the 1001-1200 range.
Meanwhile, the University of Oxford was ranked first globally in the latest THE Rankings, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
They led 2,297 higher education institutions from 118 countries and territories.
