STA. MARIA, Romblon — Thirteen passengers, including four children, were injured after a passenger jeepney overturned in Sitio Bagacuta, Barangay Paroyhog, Sta. Maria, Romblon, Wednesday morning.
Sta. Maria Municipal Police Station chief PMaj. Francis Rey Manito said the road crash happened at around 9:35 a.m.
The jeepney was traveling from Looc town and was headed for San Agustin town when the driver reportedly lost his brakes while going down a steep road.
The driver reportedly shouted at the passengers to prepare to jump after realizing that the jeepney’s brakes were no longer working.

With a deep ravine looming on the ride side of the road, the driver tried to steer the jeepney to the left and crash it into a telephone utility pole to prevent it from plunging into the ravine.
However, the jeepney overturned after hitting a roadside canal.
The injured passengers were rushed to the Sta. Maria Rural Health Unit for medical treatment.
Authorities have taken the 30-year-old driver into custody as they await word on whether the passengers will file charges.
