MANILA — A low pressure area that formed east of the country early Monday may enter the Philippine area of responsibility as a tropical cyclone by Thursday or early Friday, according to PAGASA.
It will be assigned the local name Queenie once it enters the PAR.
At 8 a.m., the LPA was located 2,045 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas. It has no effect on the country’s weather so far.
The weather disturbance is forecast to intensify into a typhoon while crossing the Philippine Sea. Further intensification to super typhoon strength is not ruled out, weather forecaster Benison Estareja told ABS-CBN News.
It will head towards the Extreme Northern Luzon early next week.
The system may pull the southwest monsoon or Habagat beginning Friday.
This Monday, a weak Habagat is affecting the western section of Southern Luzon, but may only bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon or evening, in Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be sunny and warm through Thursday, with possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms.
