Severe Tropical Storm Queenie (international name: Surigae) has maintained its strength while decelerating over the Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.
According to PAGASA, the center of Queenie was last located 600 km East of Itbayat, Batanes.
As of 5:00 a.m. on September 26, it is bearing maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.
Queenie is moving northwestward at 15 kph.
PAGASA said that Queenie is expected to continue decelerating while moving north northwestward in the next 12 hours, then turn north northeastward by Sunday.
It is likely to intensify into a typhoon on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, and will strengthen further while moving over the sea south of Okinawa Islands.
Queenie will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Sunday afternoon and evening.
No wind signals are currently hoisted in the country.
