MANILA – Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial is taking his talents from the boxing ring to the court anew.
Basilan Steel Basketball on Wednesday revealed Marcial as one of the team's players for the upcoming eighth season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
The five-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist likewise shared the announcement on his social media pages.
Marcial cited B-Steel Sports CEO, Lamitan City Vice Mayor Hegem "Gem" Furigay as among the reasons why he suited up for the team.

"He’s been supporting me, especially during the time I was at my lowest point in my career," he wrote.
Aside from going far in boxing, Marcial said he wants to play in a basketball league.
"Second, life is too short, I want to take this opportunity while I can. Playing in the MPBL is one of the dreams of every basketball athlete," he said.
The Zamboanga City native also shared his bigger goal in joining the team.
"Lastly, all of you may know that I’m a Zamboangeño, hence I am extending my support in promoting sports in the Province of Basilan. It’s an Honor for me to be part of the Basilan Steel Team, because we are promoting boxing as well," Marcial said.
"When it comes to sports, there’s no limit, this is just the beginning of developing grassroots programs," he wrote.
Marcial last suited up for the Zamboanga Valientes in the Fiesta Pilar Philippine Championship Vismin in October 2023.
The Olympic boxer scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds to help the Valientes defeat the Sibugay Knights.

Last December 2025, Marcial won the lone gold medal in boxing of the Philippines at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
