Angela Davocol/NCAA Philippines.MANILA — T-Mc Ongotan was all over the place once more as Arellano University escaped Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 82-81, to stay unscathed in NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball on Monday at the FilOil Centre in San Juan.
The do-it-all guard fired his career-best 29 points with 12 rebounds, three steals, three blocks, and two assists as the Chiefs zoomed to their fourth straight win in as many games in Group B.
“Nakita naman yung effort namin. Muntik na, pero sa gawa ng effort ng team, binigay sa amin yung panalo,” said Ongotan, as the Chiefs took advantage of the absence of Letran’s Jonathan Manalili, who was sidelined by a right hand injury.
Karl Flores followed with 10 points, five rebounds, and two steals, while King Vinoya finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
On the other hand, the Knights still had a chance to win after Ongotan missed his free throws in the final 12 seconds, but Denzil Sison-Walker and Nath Montecillo missed their respective three-pointers.
Sison-Walker returned to the game after what appeared to be a left knee injury to finish with 10 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
Chad Gammad stepped up with 23 points on 6-of-10 shooting from long range, while rookie Justin Cargo maintained his stellar play with 20 points and four rebounds despite the loss.
