MANILA -- National athletes based in Baguio City got a boost on Saturday, as the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) unveiled a major upgrade to the weightlifting facility in their Training Hub.
The gym received P2.2-million worth of equipment from the MVP Sports Foundation, while its interior was refurbished by the John Hay Hotels managed by Landco Lifestyle Ventures, with the assistance of FCLaranag Development Corporation.
"We cannot delay something as beautiful as this," said PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio, who was present at the unveiling. "Every day we delay opening these spaces for our athletes is a day of training lost."
Among the athletes who expressed their appreciation for the improvement of the facility were Olympic bronze medalist Aira Villegas and Muay Thai world champion Islay Erika Bomogao.
"Hindi po namin sasayangin ito. Lalo pa po naming paghuhusayan ang training namin, para sa bayan," said Villegas.
"We (athletes) will cherish the blessing that we have," said Bomogao, for her part.
