Veteran campaigner Kurt Barbosa settled for a silver medal in the 2026 Asian Games after being outplayed by Kazakhstan's Tamirlan Tleules in the final of the men's -58kg class on Friday night.
Barbosa lost a competitive first round, 14-16, with a late flurry of body kicks by Tleules putting him ahead.
Tleules seized the momentum in the second round, where back-to-back head kicks put him up 6-0, and Barbosa was unable to recover.
The Filipino jin absorbed a 2-15 loss in the second round, allowing Tleules to clinch the gold.
This was the Philippines' second silver in kyorugi, after 18-year-old Taichana Mangin also fell short in her own gold medal match.
The Philippine taekwondo team has already delivered five medals in the Asiad: one gold courtesy of Jeus Yape in virtual taekwondo, three silvers, and a bronze.
