Filipino Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz wants to pursue studies abroad, saying she wants to keep on learning and help more Filipinos.
Diaz, who is currently teaching weightlifting at the University of the Philippines, emphasized the importance of continued learning.
She said she is thinking of applying to study in a school in Europe within the year and is considering taking up a course related to sports management and sports business.
“Continue learning kasi at the end of the day, marami na nagsasabi ‘gold medalist ka what’s next?’ Para sa akin after gold, I have to learn something and level up,” Diaz told ABS-CBN.
She hoped to share her knowledge to the younger athletes today.
She is happy that weightlifting has become bigger in the country and wants to further expand the reach of the sport.
“This year magiging regular sport na ang weightlifting so with 16 regions na mag-participate. After that we’re talking with [National Collegiate Athletic Association] and [University Athletic Association of the Philippines],” she added.
The weightlifting champion also shared that she is proud of the achievement of Albert Ian Delos Santos, who was coached by her husband and who recently won in Egypt.
“To witness Ian lifting 187 kilos sa Egypt -- world junior record 'yun at nanalo siya ng gold. It’s a big thing. It means lumalaki na ang sport,” she said.
