Have you ever wondered what truly scares the one and only Judy Ann Santos?
During her recent BRGY interview with special guest host MJ Felipe, the multi-awarded actress took on a fun "What’s in the Box" challenge, trying to guess the items she was holding without looking.
As the challenge went on, MJ asked Judy Ann about her fears, which she thoughtfully assessed.
She mentioned that flying cockroaches terrify her.
“Takot ako sa ipis pag lumilipad. Pero yung nandiyan sa harap ko, kaya-kaya ko siyang tapak,” the actress mentioned.
Judy Ann got candid when she mentioned how she can handle snakes, both literally and figuratively.
“Siguro ahas hindi masyado, lalo naman pag nakakulong. I mean, I could, kaya kong humawak ng ahas. Kaya ko rin makisama sa mga ahas,” she shared.
As for ghosts, the actress shared that it’s something she believes in.
“Hindi pa kasi ako nakaka-experience. Hindi pa rin ako nakakita (ng) supernatural, okay. Pero naniniwala ako. I believe in everything. I believe in the devil, I believe in God, I believe in angels and saints. Pero yung mga natural elements, mga elemental, like kapre at ano, naniniwala din ako dyan,’ Judy Ann explained.
She continued, explaining how it might be something she couldn’t cope with: "Siguro pag nakakita ako, of course, matatakot ako. Malamang mahimatay ako. Hindi ko na alam, baka kinabukasan na hospital na ako, o alam mo yun, yung hindi na ako makausap."
Judy Ann, who recently won Best Actress for her role in Espantaho at the Metro Manila Film Festival, also revealed that she loves the horror genre.
“I love horror movies. Yan ang guilty pleasure namin mag-iina. I love experiencing things that's out of the ordinary,” she revealed.
Despite excelling in the horror genre and winning the coveted award, Judy Ann humbly admitted that winning best actress was something she never expected.
“Actually, wala naman talaga expectation, Mars. parang sa sampung pelikula, na bawat isang pelikula may mahuhusay na aktres, sabihin na nila nagpapakahambol ako or whatever. Pero pag may awards night, hindi naman talaga ako nag-e-expect because it's anyone's ballgame. Yung makasalian na yung pelikula mo doon, cliche man pakinggan, totoo yun eh. Kasi pinipili yan, inaaral nila kung sino yung ipapasok nila,” she explained.
But beyond the thrills and chills Espantaho brought, Judy Ann emphasized that the film's true message goes much deeper, and she couldn’t be prouder of their cast.
The actress shared, “It's a good mix of cast. Maliit man ‘yung casting namin, but the storytelling is very, very beautiful. Kung pagka, more than anything, it's about forgiveness. It's about being a mother. Kung ano yung mga pwedeng isakripisyo ng isang ina sa kanyang anak at kung anong pwedeng ibigay ng isang ina sa kanyang mga anak. It is really a story about love and forgiveness and acceptance.”
In Espantaho, the story centers on Monet, played by Judy Ann Santos, and her mother Rosa, portrayed by Lorna Tolentino, as they mourn the death of the family patriarch, Pabling. Over the nine days of pasiyam, dark secrets come to light, and a sinister plot begins to unravel.
