Dennis Trillo has appeared in various films and television series and received numerous awards over his career. While he had already established himself as a household name actor, "Green Bones," for which he won best actor during the recent Metro Manila Film Festival, increased his fan base.
The aforementioned film offered him the performance of his life, adding significance to his body of work. Everyone now refers to Trillo as the "best actor," and he believes this carries a responsibility.
“May pressure pero ayaw kong magpaapekto sa pressure. Kung ano ‘yung trabaho na ibinigay sa akin, ‘yung obligasyon, ‘yung responsibilidad, binabalik ko lang ‘yun sa kanila. Ibig sabihin, may tiwala sila sa iyo, at kailangan mong ibalik sa kanila ‘yun na one hundred percent, at kung puwede ay mas sobra pa, bilang regalo sa tiwala na ibinigay nila sa iyo,” Trillo told ABS-CBN News.
The 43-year-old actor also revealed that he is afraid of becoming irrelevant ("laos") in an industry where relevance is critical in obtaining projects, shows, and endorsements.
“Palagay ko, lahat ng artista, isa ‘yun sa fear nila na makakalimutan na sila ng mga tao. ‘Yung wala nang pumapansin sa'yo. Feeling ko, nightmare ‘yun kahit kaninong artista. Nakakatakot ‘yun kasi parang isa ‘yun sa sign na nag-fail ka na sa ginagawa mo. Wala ng interest ang mga tao sa 'yo,” he admitted.
Despite earlier rejections, Trillo stated that he never considered leaving show business, citing his mother, who urged him to attend workshops and training when he was younger but he was too shy.
“Since I became a movie star, hindi pa naman umabot sa point na ganoon (to quit). Pero bago ako mag-artista, at nag-a-audition ako sa mga commercial at hindi ako natatanggap, sabi ko, siguro hindi ako para rito. Kahit papaano, may konting sakit na hindi ka natatanggap at feeling mo may mali sa 'yo. And then pilit mong hinahanap kung ano ang aayusin mo,” he said.
Trillo, one of the most in-demand actors of his generation, added that industry puts a lot of pressure on artists to always look good.
“Siyempre lalo na sa aming mga artista na beterano na, kailangan mo talagang pangalagaan ‘yung sarili mo kasi ‘yun ang pinapakita mo sa mga tao. ‘Yun ‘yung makakapag-inspire sa kanila. ‘Yung pressure, parating nariyan,” he shared with ABS-CBN News.
Skincare for men

Last May 8, the award-winning actor was named the face of Belle Dolls Zero Filter Sunscreen under Beautéderm, a beauty brand founded by Rhea Tan of Angeles City, Pampanga.
Trillo stressed that the days of women exclusively using skincare product are over, citing an increase in the number of men prioritizing skincare and self-care.
“Dati kasi, sabon at tubig lang ako. The usual na hilamos, ganyan, pero eventually, dahil nakikita ko si Jen (Mercado), ‘yung mga ginagawa niya to take care of her skin, na-curious ako. So, unti-unti, sinimulan ko. Ayun, natuwa naman ako sa resulta. Ngayon, tuluy-tuloy na,” he told the media during the Belle Dolls press conference at Solaire in Quezon City.
Meanwhile, Tan emphasized the need of representation in the skincare industry, with both men and women serving as spokespersons. She stated that she wants to encourage more men to prioritize self-care, and that taking care of oneself does not imply being vain.
“Men have this idea that if they are too clean, too careful of their appearance, or overly protective of their skin, they are vain. Taking care of oneself does not imply being vain. Men should not be ashamed of their skincare because it helps them gain confidence,” Tan told ABS-CBN News.
Both Trillo and Mercado are now endorsers for Tan's beauty brand.
