Real-life couple Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo opened up more about their married life during the grand media conference of their upcoming movie Everything About My Wife at Seda Hotel Vertis North.
Jennylyn shared that resolving conflicts at home during rough patches usually involves understanding each other's feelings
“Usually pakiramdaman ‘yan kasi ayaw namin mag-usap ng parehong mainit ang ulo pareho, o ayaw namin magsabay. Pag nakikita namin na okay na ‘yung isa, ‘yung isa mag start na talaga automatic na ‘yan sa'min lalapit na. Makikipag-usap na,” Jennylyn explained,
The romantic comedy icon also got candid about how easily she forgives her husband.
“Kahit na mainit pa yung ulo ng isa, bababa talaga kasi ‘di ba sa gwapo ba naman lalapit sayo ‘di ba? Tapos ang napaka-kalma, yung napaka soft-spoken, so talagang mapapa okay ka na,” she added.
In their upcoming romantic comedy film, Jennylyn and Dennis play husband and wife Imogen and Dom. As Dom finds his wife unbearable, he seeks the help of a Casanova, played by Sam Milby, to seduce her and end their marriage. The film is the Filipino version of the Argentine movie Un novio para mi mujer ("A Boyfriend for My Wife"), which also had a 2012 South Korean adaptation titled All About My Wife.
Jennylyn shared that working on the movie was much easier, especially since they're already familiar with each other’s working styles. She added that they also have great collaboration and chemistry on set.
“Since, ah sanay naman na kaming magkatrabaho simula pa nung kahit hindi pa kami mag asawa. Ano naman kami, maganda kasi yung, yung well, yung tandem naming dalawa pag nasa set kami pinag uusapan muna namin yung bawat eksena. Paano ba namin 'to gagawin. Tapos open kami sa isa't isa kung meron kaming mga suggestions,” Jennylyn mentioned.
She added that Dennis also helps by being open to suggestions, always checking if it’s okay to try something new or different.
“Ganon din si Dennis, pagka-may gusto ko, may gusto siyang makita or ‘Pwede ba 'tong i-try ganon? Okay, ano hindi ko naisip yun ah.’ Yung mga ganun, so maganda collaboration naming dalawa pagdating sa trabaho kasi. Maganda yung kinakalabasan nung mga scenes,” she futher explained.
The couple last worked together in a 2020 series and in the period drama film Rosario in 2010.
Meanwhile, award-winning actor Dennis Trillo revealed that they now communicate better with each other’s acting styles since getting married.
“Ngayon kasi mas nakakapag-usap na kami. Mas nakakapag-suggest ng mga atake na pwedeng gawin kumpara dati. Pag kung ginawa ko yun, baka sabihin noon ‘Sobrang nagmamarunong akala mo naman sinong magaling to.’ Pero ngayon siyempre mag-asawa na kami,” Dennis explained.
He also clarified that he still consults with Jennylyn to make sure it's okay with her.
“Mas naiintindihan na niya na siyempre pinapaganda lang naman namin. Pero siyempre chine-check kung nasa mood siya kasi siyempre minsan mahirap maging masyadong nagmamarunong na magaling,” Dennis humbly shared.
Aside from the DenJen team-up, this movie also marks the reunion of Jennylyn and Kapamilya actor Sam Milby, who previously co-starred in the 2015 film The Prenup.
The actor-singer shared that playing Miguel was a challenge, despite having portrayed different womanizer roles in the past.
“It is the opposite of me. I'm kind of the shy introvert type and Miguel is outgoing. He's the ladies' man. He's very overly confident so it was a challenge. But yeah, it was just trying to be out of my comfort zone. I guess. As an actor, di ba, you always gotta put yourself there. I wanted to challenge (myself),” Sam admitted.
Everything About My Wife is set to hit Philippine cinemas on February 26.
