Olivia Rodrigo opened up about what inspired her to create the all-women music festival Daisy Chain Fields, which took place in Irvine, California on August 29 (US time).
The Filipino-American singer graced the cover of Vogue Philippines' Anniversary Issue, where she reflected on the idea behind the festival and how it had been years in the making.
According to the magazine, Olivia's fascination with the idea of an all-women music festival dates back to childhood, when she discovered Lilith Fair through its 2010 revival at the age of seven.
“I always kind of hoped that someone would recreate it with all of the most incredible women artists of today,” she told Vogue Philippines. “And at a certain point, I think I was just sort of like, ‘Well, if anyone can do it, I can probably do it.’ You know, like what’s stopping me from creating something like that?”
Beyond bringing together some of today’s biggest women artists, Daisy Chain Fields has also generated significant support for nonprofit organizations dedicated to women and girls.
The festival initially raised $10 million, with the proceeds set to benefit 10 nonprofit partners.
“It’s a real honor to announce that we are donating $10 million to be given directly to these 10 nonprofit partners," she said at a press conference as reported by Billboard. "I’m so excited for tomorrow, I’ll see you guys there."
The festival’s fundraising impact doubled after Melinda French Gates contributed another $10 million, raising the total support for organizations serving women and girls to $20 million.
Olivia first announced Daisy Chain Fields in June, revealing that 100 percent of the festival’s net proceeds would go to charities working to advance and advocate for women and girls.
The festival boasts a star-studded lineup featuring Bikini Kill, Chappell Roan, Doechii, Eli Garbage, Santigold, and The Breeders, among others. Karen O, Sarah McLachlan, and Stevie Nicks were also announced as special guests, while Olivia herself is set to perform at the event.
“The lineup is truly insane and full of my heroes and friends. I firmly believe that joy, community, and music can be the drivers of meaningful change and I’m hopeful this festival will be just that," she remarked at that time.

Daisy Chain Fields will support 10 organizations: Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, the Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Institute for Reproductive Health, National Women’s Law Center, and Planned Parenthood.
“By bringing together women in music and organizations helping shape a better future for women and girls, I hope we can build a community that inspires hope and positive change,” Olivia said in a previous statement.
