Ai-Ai delas Alas has set the record straight about her former husband Gerald Sibayan’s status in the United States, clarifying that she never intended to have him deported following their separation.
The actress-comedian made the clarification after a netizen commented on one of her Instagram posts, saying they assumed that Gerald had been deported.
“Si Gerard pala nasa Amerika pa rin. Akala ko na deport eh. Nakapag asawa na ng ibang ka-edad nya. Okay lang, mukhang kuntento naman na si Ms Ai sa buhay niya,” the netizen wrote.
Ai-Ai said she only had his green card revoked. She added that she would leave whatever happens to him in God’s hands.
“Ni revoke ko lang [‘yung green card niya] .. [di] ko kaya i pa deport sya baka magalit si Lord sya na bahala kay Gerald. Vengeance is not ours its God's amen🙏🏼,” she replied.
A green card, formally known as a Permanent Resident Card, allows a holder “to live and work permanently in the United States,” according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
The exchange prompted another question from the netizen about whether the revocation could be considered an act of “revenge.”
Ai-Ai explained that the matter was tied to their divorce.
“Kasabay kasi ng divorce yun matic the revocation,” she said.
The clarification comes amid reports that Gerald had remarried earlier this month at the San Francisco City Hall.
Ai-Ai and Gerald married in December 2017 in Quezon City and renewed their vows in Las Vegas in 2022. They announced their separation in 2024, with their divorce eventually finalized in the United States in March.
The actress-comedian had already spoken about Gerald’s green card in 2025, saying she wanted it revoked following their separation as she tried to move forward from their relationship.
In an earlier statement shared with Boy Abunda, Ai-Ai said she was not surprised by the possibility of Gerald marrying again, particularly because she believed he needed to remain in the US.
“Alam naman natin na mangyayari yan. Expected ko na yan nung hiniwalayan niya ako. Kailangan niya na mag-stay sa Amerika kaya kailangan niya na magpakasal,” she said.
While she has moved forward from their relationship, Ai-Ai expressed hope that Gerald would not repeat with his new partner the things that she experienced during their marriage.
“Sana lang, huwag niyang gawin sa iba ang ginawa niya sa akin. Hayaan na natin siya. At least, naka-suit siya, hindi naka-polo lang. Basta ang alam ko, English speaking ang babae na pinakasalan niya kasi isang buwan bago ako iniwan ni Gerald, Ingles na rin ang pakikipag-usap niya sa akin,” she added.
Amid the attention surrounding Gerald’s remarriage, Ai-Ai also thanked those who reached out to check on her. She assured her supporters that she is doing well and has already chosen to move forward.
“Okay na okay po ako, sa tulong ni Lord at ni Mama Mary. huwag na po kayong magpaapekto sa pagpapakasal niya dahil hindi naman po ako apektado. Matagal na po akong moving forward,” she ended.
