MANILA — Veteran OPM singer and actor Randy Santiago has undergone cataract surgery on his right eye, a year after having the same procedure on his left eye.
Santiago shared the update on social media Tuesday night, posting photos taken before and after the procedure and thanking his doctor and the medical team at UST Hospital for what he described as a smooth and fast surgery.
According to the Mayo Clinic, cataract surgery is "a procedure to remove the lens of an eye and replace it with an artificial lens. The natural lens typically is clear, but a cataract causes the lens to become cloudy. Cataracts eventually can affect vision."
"After a year from my first cataract surgery on my left eye, I had my right eye done this time," part of Santiago's caption read.
Santiago did not provide further details about his recovery.
Santiago is known for his signature dark shades, charismatic stage presence and timeless OPM hits. He started wearing shades in the early '80s after he underwent surgery for his left eye.
He is behind chart-topping songs such as "Hindi Magbabago," "Babaero," "Siguro," "Naglalambing," and "Pakita Mo," and other OPM classics.
In 2024, Santiago returned to concert scene via the concert "EYE CON" at the PICC Plenary Hall. Last year, he released his single "Lover Boy."
