Dakota Johnson talks about working with longtime friend Taylor Swift, and despite her usual rule about mixing friendship with work, the actress said their collaboration turned out to be a lot of fun.
The actress will appear alongside Colin Farrell and Taylor in the music video for “Patient Zero,” the Grammy-winning singer’s latest song.
In an interview with Fan Girl Nation, which she did alongside her Verity co-star Josh Hartnett, Dakota opened up about what it was like to work with Taylor.
“Taylor and I have been friends for a really long time, and we’re very close. And we decided to work together, and it’s great," she said.
While Dakota admitted that she normally advises people not to work professionally with friends, she said she and Taylor have found a good rhythm as collaborators.
“Normally, I would say don’t work with your friends,” she maintained. “But we work really well together.”
The actress continued: “It was so fun. It's the best. We just had the best time."
Dakota and Taylor have maintained their friendship for years, with the singer previously sharing her admiration for the actress.
In April, Taylor wrote about Dakota in a TIME profile celebrating the actress as one of the magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2026.
Taylor praised Dakota for her frankness and described her as someone who makes her feel like she “can’t lie.”
“As her friend, I can vouch for her realness, but add that she’s also one of the most empathetic people I’ve ever known," she wrote at the time.
She added: "Captivating in front of the screen and inquisitive behind it, her unfailing truthfulness helps to shape her ever evolving storytelling into art that feels as real and timeless as she is.”
Taylor also took the director’s chair for the “Patient Zero” music video. The song was released on September 25 as part of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.
Before the song's release, the global superstar gave fans a first look at the project when she uploaded a 13-second teaser on September 24.
The short preview features Taylor and Dakota in several mysterious scenes, including one set at a gravesite, while Colin also makes an appearance in the cinematic visual.
The music video for "Patient Zero" is set to premiere during the Video Music Awards on September 27, where Taylor will also receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors.
