After impressing producers with her role as the woman who one day wakes up without her private part in the irreverently funny comedy-fantasy film Flower Girl last year, actress Sue Ramirez takes on another funny yet thought-provoking role in Regal Films’ latest rom-com Project Baby.
Although she had known about the project earlier than anyone else cast, Sue admitted that learning she would be paired with OPM artist Rico Blanco was still the biggest surprise for her.
“Nung malapit na kami mag-shooting, dun ako kinabahan kasi confirmed na pala talaga siya. Ang nakakatawa, nung araw na na-confirm ko na si Rico na yung gaganap, nakasalubong ko siya sa mall. As in out of the blue. Ang nakakatawa, kausap ko pa yung best friend ko nun, ‘Bes, meron kaming project ni Rico, tuwang tuwa ako!’ Pag baba ko ng mall, nandun si Rico. So sabi ko, grabe si Lord. He really works in mysterious ways dahil sa dami ng araw na makikita ko siya, yun pa yung araw. We said hi and uy, mag-wo-work tayo together and I told him I was so excited. The rest was history,” she shared during the Project Baby media conference held last May 16 in Eastwood Mall in Libis.
Even though they were already friends in real life, Sue couldn’t help but still be intimidated by her co-star when they first started doing scenes together
“Nakakakaba! Actually, yung presensiya ni Rico, wala naman talaga siyang gini-give off na energy na kailangan mong mahiya or ano. Kasi kilala naman natin siya. Icon talaga si Rico and I’m very, very privileged na when he said na nalaman niyang ako (ang kasama niya dito), pumayag siya. Kinilig ako siyempre!” she revealed.
Even though Rico is not as active in acting as he is in the music scene, Sue said she was already aware of how talented he was onscreen since she had already seen him act in the 2010 ABS-CBN series Imortal where he played the main antagonist role of Lucas Ungson Teodoro, the brother of John Lloyd Cruz’s character Mateo.
“I know na umaarte si Rico. Napanood ko siya sa Imortal dati. Napapanood ko na siya sa TV talaga. So hindi bago sa akin at hindi ako nagulat na umaarte pala siya. Alam ko na umaarte talaga siya. Pero never ko naisip sa buong buhay ko na sa filmography ko, na ma-imagine ko na I will be working with him in a rom-com project. As in never, never in my wildest dreams!
"But yun nga, God works in mysterious ways. Ginugulat niya tayo sa mga paraan na makakatulong sa pagkatao natin. Nung nakilala ko si Rico, lagi natin siyang linalagay sa pedestal because he’s a musical legend. He’s an icon. But nakita ko yung totoong tao si Rico,” she explained.

In the film, Sue plays the role of an independent and successful woman in her 30s named Sandy, who realizes that her biological clock is ticking and she wants to have a baby without a partner. So she sets out on a plan to find the perfect candidate for her project, which eventually leads her to a seemingly too-good-to-be-true man in Migo (played by Rico).
When asked about how it felt shooting an intimate scene with Rico for this project, Sue candidly shared, "Abangan niyo na lang kung anong mangyayari sa love scene!"

The film opens in cinemas nationwide on June 10, Wednesday.
