MANILA — Internet personality and actress Sassa Gurl caught everyone’s attention as she lay inside a real coffin during the premiere night of the Filipino queer ghost story “Multwoh (Patay na Patay Sa’yo)” on Wednesday, September 23.
Held at a mall cinema in Quezon City, the premiere embraced the horror-comedy’s playful and unconventional spirit, with Sassa making a theatrical entrance fitting for the film’s supernatural theme.

True to her signature humor, Sassa joked about collecting “abuloy” from those attending the premiere.
“Magbigay kayo abuloy, pang-inom namin mamaya ng mga um-attend,” she quipped.

Sassa said audiences can expect her trademark comedy in the film; this time, it is mixed with a sweeter and supernatural side of her character.
“Siyempre, dahil Sassa Gurl ’to, may onting katatawanan din. Atake natin ay medyo sweet girl na multo. So, kung hindi pa kayo nakakita ng multong bakla, ako na ’yun,” she said.
Directed by Rodina Singh, “Multwoh” combines horror, comedy and queer romance in a story that explores love and desire beyond the usual boundaries.
Singh said the team poured everything they could into the project, which had been in the works for about a year.
“Abangan ninyo ’yung kwento. Isang taon na simula nung una naming nilabas na ginagawa namin siya. Binuhos namin ’yung lahat ng kaya naming maibigay sa pelikulang ito dahil masarap ang umibig,” Singh said.
The director also revealed that the film received an R-13 classification after initially receiving a more restrictive rating.
“Unang-una, rating. Rating namin ay R-13, from X to R-13. Kunti na lang, PG na,” Singh said.
Singh, who also directed “Dreamboi,” said the two projects may be different in genre but both explore an important aspect of queer life, love and desire.
“Medyo magkalayong-magkalayo sila ng genre, but it tackles a very important part of queerness. At ito ’yung pag-ibig,” Singh said.
While “Dreamboi” leaned more heavily into drama, Singh described “Multwoh” as a project where the filmmakers allowed themselves to be more playful.
“Same sila ni ‘Dreamboi’ na desire pa rin naman. But ’yung desire kasi dito sa ‘Multwoh,’ parang out-of-this-world experience na siya,” she explained. “Si ‘Dreamboi,’ mas leaning towards drama. Si ‘Multwoh’ talaga, we were very, very playful doing it.”
More than anything, Singh hopes moviegoers will enjoy the unusual experience the film offers.
“I wish na sana magustuhan nila ’yung pelikulang ginawa namin,” she said.
When asked about the “ghost” that continues to haunt her personally, Singh had a fitting answer for the night: “Ang multo ko ay ’yung hindi ko nasabi ’yung gustong-gusto kong sabihin.”
“Multwoh (Patay na Patay Sa’yo)” runs from September 23 to October 4 in select Ayala Malls and Gateway cinemas.
