‘Mula sa Puso: The Movie’
The debut of Por’s dreams winds up being that of Claudine Barretto’s Via in “Mula sa Puso: The Movie”! As the kikay Por makes Ina watch the film’s debut scene, Ina suffers an internal breakdown over how she could afford such an extravagant event.
“Mula sa Puso: The Movie” gets yet another shoutout towards the end of “Ang Tanging Ina”, when Ina catches a bombing attempt in the bus she’s riding in. Just as Ina spots a bundle of dynamite, the scene cuts to Por and Pip (Alwyn Uytingco) watching the explosion scene from “Mula sa Puso: The Movie” unfold on TV, marked by the evil laughter of Selina, unforgettably portrayed by Princess Punzalan.
‘Bata, Bata... Paano Ka Ginawa?’
After Ina discovers that Carlo Aquino’s Dimitri has been coping with his break-up by skipping school, she confronts him at a billiards hall. Their heated exchange brings Carlo to channel his “Bata, Bata... Paano Ka Ginawa?” role of Ojie, as he recreates his fight with Vilma Santos’ Lea.
‘Madrasta’
When Ina’s diligent firstborn Juan (Marvin Agustin) asks for her blessing to marry his girlfriend Jenny (Kaye Abad), Ina is initially upset. The tension-filled conversation gradually transforms into Ina and Juan’s mother-son spin on the iconic “I’m just your wife” scene from “Madrasta”.
‘Anak’
Venting about society’s expectations of women, Ina and her best friend Rowena (Eugene Domingo) have their Vilma Santos and Cherry Pie Picache moment when they recite Vilma and Cherry Pie’s dialogue in “Anak”, line by line.
Ina’s a certified Vilmanian, alright, as she harks back to Ate Vi’s “Anak” character Josie and her emotional sermon hurled at Claudine Barretto’s Carla. When she finally gives her 12 children a piece of her mind, Ina's kids are dumbfounded by her out-of-context rant.
‘Tanging Yaman’
“Ang Tanging Ina” meets “Tanging Yaman”! As Ina resorts to prayer after Ten-Ten (Yuuki Kadooka) goes missing, Shaina Magdayao’s Seven tags along. The tender moment shared between Ina and her soft-spoken daughter resembles Shaina’s Carina in her “Ang Tanging Yaman” church scene opposite the great Gloria Romero’s Loleng.
