MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday it was investigating the source of a false report claiming a mass shooting occurred at a school in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered the Dasmariñas Component City Police Station (CCPS) to identify the source of the report and determine whether it was deliberately fabricated.
The claim circulated on social media and group chats, alleging that a shooting had occurred on campus on October 1.
“We strongly condemn the irresponsible spread of fake news on social media that causes undue panic and confusion among students, parents, and the general public,” Nartatez said in a statement.

The police immediately verified the report and found no evidence to substantiate the alleged mass shooting.
Authorities, however, confirmed that a deceased person was found inside a vehicle on September 30 within a medical facility in Barangay Burol Main.
Authorities said the death was a separate incident and had no connection to the alleged mass shooting.
Police warned the public against posts that combine the two incidents or falsely identify the deceased person as a victim of the supposed shooting.
“Those who deliberately create or spread false information that causes public alarm may face appropriate legal consequences. Freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly and should never be used to mislead the public,” Nartatez said.
He urged the public to verify information before sharing, particularly reports involving alleged crimes or threats that could cause alarm and panic.
