The parents and older brother of Rene Clert “Bobet” Baterbonia visited the shoreline in Dipaculao, Aurora, on Wednesday, where the promising young basketball player drowned during a team-building activity of the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles on June 8.
Baterbonia, along with his Nigerian teammate Divine Adili, died in the incident, raising questions about whether foul play or negligence was involved. These allegations are now the subject of investigations by several law enforcement agencies.
A photo shared by the Talacogon Municipal Information Office (MIO) showed the family standing near the spot where flowers had been offered along the shoreline that bore witness to the tragedy.
“Uban sa kasubo ug gugma, ilang gihandom ang mga panghitabo nga dili na gayud mapulihan (With grief and love, the family cherished the moments that can never be replaced.),” the Talacogon MIO said in a Facebook post.
Bobet’s elder brother, Rubeyan, also shared photos of their journey to the resort in Aurora, with the caption: “bet naa nami, uli na ta (Bet, we're here. Let's go home.).”
CIDG to brief Rene Baterbonia's family on probe

The Baterbonia family traveled to Manila from Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, on Monday, five days after Rene Clert’s internment, as they continued to seek justice for his death.
Atty. Israelito Torreon and Bobet’s mother Rovelyn shared videos on social media showing a dove perched on one of their vehicles while on their way to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
“Nak, salamat sa pag guide ug pag uban2x sa akoa Wala man jud koy lain masangpit karon na panahon kondi Ang ginoo ug Ikaw lang jud nak (Son, thank you for guiding me and always being by my side. At this time, I have no one else to turn to except God and you, my son.),” Rene Clert’s mother wrote in the caption of her Facebook post.
In recent days, netizens have also captured videos of two doves along the Dipaculao shoreline and two doves perched on Baterbonia’s casket during his wake, with many associating them with the two late athletes.
