MANILA — Severe tropical cyclone Queenie (international name: Surigae) is nearing typhoon strength, the state weather bureau said.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, it was located 575 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
It packs winds of 110 kph with gustiness up to 135 kph and is moving west northwestward at 10 kph
Queenie will reach typhoon intensity while recurving east of Taiwan on Saturday.
It may exit the PAR between Sunday afternoon or evening.
Outside the PAR, it will accelerate northeastward towards the sea south of mainland Japan.
