Kalisz wins 400m medley as Lochte denied Rio berth at US trials

Ryan Lochte won't defend his 400m individual medley title at the Rio Olympics after finishing third on Sunday in a final won by Chase Kalisz at the US swimming trials.
Lochte, who said he suffered a groin injury in the breaststroke leg of the morning heats, took the race out fast, but Kalisz roared past the 11-time Olympic medallist Lochte on the breaststroke and held on over the finishing freestyle to win the punishing event in 4min 09.54sec.
That makes him second-fastest in the world this year behind Japan's Kosuke Hagino.
Jay Litherland put himself on the road to a first Olympic appearance in Rio with a second-place finish in 4:11.02, while Lochte was third and out of the Rio running in 4:12.02.
Lochte still has a chance to qualify for a fourth Olympics. He's entered the eight-day trials in the 100m freestyle, 200m medley, 100 butterfly and 200m freestyle and said he would pursue treatment on the injury in a bid to keep his Rio bid on track.

Tyson Fury denies doping claim
Agence France-Presse
Controversial British heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury strongly denied a newspaper claim on Sunday that he failed a doping test last year.
The Sunday Mirror alleged that Fury -- who won the belt in an upset defeat of Wladimir Klitschko last November -- returned a sample with a banned steroid in it.
"We are baffled by today's story in the Sunday Mirror," said a statement from Fury's promoter Hennessy Sports.
"Tyson Fury absolutely denies any allegation of doping. He looks forward to recovering from his injury and defending his titles against Wladimir Klitschko in October."
The allegation comes only two days after the 27-year-old -- who has sparked a furore with sexist remarks about women, homosexuality and paedophilia -- said he would not be able to defend the WBA, WBO and IBO belts in a rematch with Klitschko in July after injuring his ankle during a run.

The 75-year-old former player and manager for the National League club appeared in a pre-game ceremony at Great American Ballpark, a rare exception allowing him involvement in weekend activites honoring him and his teammates on the 1976 World Series championship squad.
Rose's son, Pete Jnr, threw him a ceremonial first pitch. Rose was given a painting and a crystal sculpture as his 14 jersey was officially taken out of rotation. Rose Jnr was the only one to wear it since his father left the game.
