The president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) remains confident that a gold rush is coming in the final days of competition in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games.
POC President Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino noted on Wednesday in Bangkok that several Filipino athletes are set to compete in events where the country has traditionally excelled.
He said the Filipino athletes are well-positioned for a strong finishing kick.
"Marami pa 'yan. Itong last three days mabibigat mga 'yan. Nandiyan 'yung peak. Ang tingin ko diyan 15 up pa. Kasi nakakatlo na, apat. Mamaya isa, lima, sampu na lang. Basketball, boxing, speedskate lahat 'yan may pag-asa," said Tolentino.
"Hindi ko masabi kung ilan pa talaga, kasi nga nandiyan 'yung host Thailand," added Tolentino.
Four Filipino boxers have advanced to the gold medal matches of their divisions, while the Gilas Pilipinas Men and Women's teams will gun for places in the final on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Philippine women's national football team won a historic gold medal on Wednesday night.
So far, the Philippines has 38 gold medals, good for sixth place in the table.
