Pole vaulter EJ Obiena finished fifth in men's pole vault at the Diamond League Weltklasse Zürich 2026 in Switzerland.
Obiena started off the meet on a high note, leaping 5.50m and 5.65m in just one try.
However, the Filipino Olympian had to dig deep to clear 5.80m in his final attempt, after failing in his first two jumps.
Obiena then cleared 5.90m in just one try, his second best height of the season.
The Filipino pole vaulter tried to raise the bar to clear 6.00m but failed on all three tries.
"5.90m here in Zurich🇨🇭 Thank you @weltklassezurich for always hosting such a wonderful competition," Obiena wrote on his Instagram post.
"PS: With this I also qualified for next year’s 🌏 World Championship 💪," he added.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Mondo Duplantis took home gold after clearing an outdoor world lead of 6.25m.
2024 Paris Olympics bronze medalist Emmanouil Karalis captured silver while setting a Greek record of 6.20m in just one try, surpassing his season best of 6.17m.
Karalis and Duplantis tried to break a new world record and clear 6.32m, but both failed in all three attempts.
Norway's Sondre Guttormsen clinched bronze with a clearance of 6.00m.
Obiena is aiming for consistency in his jumps, as he gears up to defend his Asian Games men's pole vault title next month.
