As the only child of famous parents and ex-couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Suri Cruise recently made headlines when it was discovered that she has already dropped her father’s last name. According to reports, public records from Suri’s voter registration reflect that she has been using the surname Noelle, which is her mother Katie’s middle name.
It was reported that Suri first started using Suri Noelle when she graduated from LaGuardia High School in 2024 where she first made headlines for not using her father’s famous surname in the ceremony pamphlet of her graduation. During the same year, she also used Noelle as her surname when she registered to vote in the state of Pennsylvania during her first year in college at Carnegie Mellon University, where she is currently studying musical theater. The 20-year-old college sophomore has also been using the surname profesionally, as evidenced in playbill for a recent production she was involved in at New Hazlett Theater in Pittsburg.
In a report, an unnamed source shared that part of the reason for the name change was for Suri to be able to “avoid the paparazzi,” “Start fresh at college,” and more freely explore her own identity apart from her estranged father.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcomed the arrival of their daughter Suri in April 2006, and they got married in November of the same year. The couple filed for divorce six years later.
Since the separation, Tom, who is a known devout Scientologist, has been estranged from Suri for most of her life and has been raised by her mom Katie. According to official court documents, Katie, who is most popularly known for her role in the '90s teen drama Dawson's Creek, had divorced the Mission: Impossible star because she wanted “to protect Suri from Scientology.”
