Having been in the entertainment industry for decades, multi-awarded host and singer Raymond Gorospe has already achieved a lot in his career, except for the chance to hold his own concert. This year, the two-time Aliw Award winner for Best Male Host and WCOPA multi-medalist finally gets his own solo showcase with the dinner concert event My Story, My Life happening on October 2 in Celebrity Club in Quezon City under Ponti Entertainment Productions.
“Nagkaroon na ako ng Valetine’s show before, but it was an intimate one. But yung ganitong magnitude, ngayon pa lang. I think this is unfinished business. I’ve been singing for a long time. I started singing when I was in high school. I’m a singer from birth until death (laughs). So we decided to have this concert kasi I’ve been singing sa mga high society events, sa mga different corporate gigs and guestings in concerts,” he told the media during the concert presscon held at the Tikme Dine restaurant in Quezon City last September 24.
During his presscon, the My Story, My Life concert performer revealed that one of the reasons why he finally decided to hold his own show was because of his own personal achievement of overcoming one of the most challenging and low moments in his life a few years ago.
“There was a time before the pandemic that I made a bad decision sa business which almost took everything. Good thing na lang that I have a very supportive wife and family and friends from all over. And then to keep me grounded, I have friends from dragon boat rowing and meron kaming Bible study every Monday. There’s this one song (in this concert) na gaagwin ko with my friends which is called ‘Reaching Out’ and ‘The Warrior is a Child’, plus yung sinulat ko which talks about despite all the bad things that happen to you, you will always look forward sa isang magandang umaga,” he shared.
Raymond admitted that he got a lot of help from the people around him who wanted him to stay positive and rooted for his success.
“How did I pick myself up from that? Importante yung family, yung friends, and of course, ang lagi naman nating tinatawag, is si Lord pa din. So if you have a community na kasama mo, a bible study or a group where you can share experiences kung paano nila lalagpasan ito, importanteng importante yung nakakausap. Or else, baka kung ano na lang yung gawin niyo din. I think yun yung mga important na dapat gawin ng isang tao para hindi na siya mapunta sa ganung situation,” he added.
For those who are also experiencing a trying time in their life, Raymond shares some words of advice, especially when it comes to business dealings. “First, for you to be in that position, do due diligence. Especially with the people who want to do business with you. Sabi nga ng iba, yung itsura ng suot parang asukal din, pero pag tinikman mo, iba ang lasa. So may mga taong ganun eh. They will put their best foot forward, they will give you heaven and earth for you to join them. So mag-ingat tayo dun.”
Having been influenced by OPM icons like Martin Nievera, Nonoy Zuniga, Ariel Rivera, Ogie Alcasid, and Gary V., Raymond talked about why he will always have a passion for singing as well as hosting. “Sa singing kasi ang sarap to connect with people in the audience. Ang saya ng feeling na nakaka-relate sila sa ginagawa mo and they appreciate what you’re doing. Siguro yung passion for the things that I like to do. Parang nandidito na rin kasi siya, it’s in my blood. So pag hindi ko ginagawa, hinahanap ko kasi siya. And of course, pinaka importante rin, the reason why I’m doing this is my family. Especially now, the kids are growing so mahal ang tuition (laughs). Espcially after the bad business thing and kailangan ko mag-isip ng gagawin. So ang naisip ko talaga is eto, na kalimutan ko muna siya sandali while I’m doing what I love to do,” he admitted.
For those who will be attending his one-night only event, Raymond promises an experience that will make it worth the effort of seeing his performance live. The talented artist explained the importance of why live shows are truly a worthwhile experience.
“Siguro puwede natin siya ihambing sa, if you’re browsing through a magazine or newspaper, yung naaamoy yung amoy ng newspaper or magazine tapos na-fi-feel mo siya. Parang ganun din sa concert. Kung nasa bahay ka lang, nakikinig ka lang. Mas maganda yung we still get to socialize with people. Kasi minsan yung ibang kabataan parang because of too much online, pag lumalabas na sila, they don’t know how to be with other people. So gusto sana natin ibalik sa tao. Tapos iba yung feeling na nakikita mo nag-per-perform yung mga tao, yung raw emotions na nakukuha mo sa kanila. Iba yung experience ng ganun eh. So I don’t think yung AI would replace that,” he said.
