MANILA — Singer Sofronio Vasquez, the first Filipino and first male Asian winner of “The Voice” Season 26, has lent his vocals to “Seas Unbroken,” a new song celebrating unity among Southeast Asian nations.
Vasquez recently performed the song with the Young Voices of the Philippines (YVP) aboard the Wish 107.5 Bus, marking his debut performance of the track.
Written by Von de Guzman, “Seas Unbroken” was created in support of the Philippines’ 2026 chairship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Its lyrics draw on the seas and islands that connect Southeast Asian countries, with the song built around the message, “Seas unbroken, we are one.”
The collaboration brings together Vasquez and YVP, one of the scholar choirs of the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines. The organization provides young performers with opportunities to develop their musical talents through rehearsals, performances and festivals.
Vasquez, who made history with his “The Voice” victory in the United States, takes the lead vocals on the track, showcasing the vocal range that helped propel him onto the international stage.
The song was unveiled under the theme of the Philippines’ ASEAN chairship, “Navigating Our Future, Together,” which focuses on peace and security, prosperity and people empowerment. The chairship also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.
For the Philippines, an archipelagic nation whose identity is closely tied to the sea, the song’s theme carries particular significance. It also highlights the shared geography, history, culture and aspirations of ASEAN member states.
The Philippines formally assumed the ASEAN chairship on January 1, 2026.
