MANILA — Ice Seguerra strips down his layers and bares his most vulnerable self in “Being Ice,” his bravest album yet.
The full-length dropping on August 8 marks Seguerra’s release composed entirely of original material.
“It took me a while. I was not encouraged to write my own songs because may pressure— it has to be a hit. Feeling ko if hindi nag hit, delikado livelihood namin. Ako breadwinner. Mas nanaig fear ko to fail because if I fail,” Seguerra said during the press conference held for his album in Quezon City, Thursday. “Hindi ako naging matapang to share what I was feeling because I was afraid to fail anf make mistakes,” he added.
“Being Ice” features songs Seguerra penned throughout his career—with the earliest being “‘Wag Na Lang Pala,” which started as a songwriting exercise years ago.
“Una ko ginawa wala pa si Liza. Hirap ako nagsimula ng kanta, paano ko sabihin, pano sinulan hangang sa nanganak na and it became a story about a person na nay mahal na tao. Pero kahit ano gawin niya di masabi kasi takot,” he recalled.
“Ito ang pinaka matanda ko nasulat pero pinaka huli na-add. Tinapos ko with Liza who is also an amazing songwriter,” he added.
The record offers a glimpse into his personal journey—even delving into his lowest moments.

For instance, “Shelter for the Broken,” written during the pandemic, explores the singer’s struggle with depression where he nearly gave in to his darkest thoughts.
“It was from rambling. I felt wala ako purpose, I lost my work— Malaking bagay sa pagkakilala ko sarili ko trabaho ko at ability to provide for my family. I felt I lost my identity, ano pa purpose ko,” he explained.
The tracks draw from raw, personal moments—like his relationship with his father in “Nandyan Ka” and his fears of coming out in “Anino.”
“When I became a dad too, na-realize ko he may not be the provider I expected him— he was there. and it sucks I only realized he was there when he was already sick. I tried at least sa times natirira pa to make new memories with my dad,” he shared.
“Anino is for my fans because it’s my fear. If i continue transitioning will they continue to be there for me like we’re there for Aiza Seguerra,” he added.
