A 15-year-old student was wounded after he was allegedly stabbed by a fellow student inside a public school in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on Thursday.
PNP Public Information Office chief PCol. Allen Rae Co said the incident stemmed from an earlier altercation between the two students.
According to Co, the conflict began after someone allegedly spat on the motorcycle of the child in conflict with the law or CICL, who then accused the victim of doing it.
“So, it was the victim, together with a companion, na pumunta po sa room ng CICL to confront him na bakit mo ako pinagbibintangan,” Co said.
The argument escalated until the CICL allegedly pulled out a butterfly knife and stabbed the victim in the abdomen.
The CICL reportedly attempted to stab the victim again but was stopped by a teacher who arrived at the scene.
“Fortunately, nandoon na po ‘yung teacher natin who was able to stop him, na-pacify na po,” Co said.
The victim is now in stable condition and remains confined in a hospital.
Police recovered a nine-inch stainless butterfly knife believed to have been used in the stabbing.
Authorities are now investigating how the bladed weapon was brought into the school premises.
“There were only two guards and ang naka-duty po ay isa. ‘Yung area, meron po tatlong ingress at egress. So, isa lang po ang actually nababantayan,” Co said.
The PNP said it continues to coordinate with schools to improve security measures.
Meanwhile, the CICL has been endorsed to the local Department of Social Welfare and Development office for intervention.
Authorities will also assess the CILC’s active discernment, or whether he understood the nature and consequences of his alleged act at the time of the incident.
Co said the assessment will be crucial in determining whether the CICL could face criminal charges.
