Fire on motor tanker vessel in Calaca City declared out after 45 hours

A fire aboard motor tanker vessel MTKR Gindara was declared out on Friday afternoon after more than 45 hours of firefighting operations, the Coast Guard Southern Tagalog said.

CALACA CITY, Batangas – A fire aboard motor tanker vessel MTKR Gindara was declared out on Friday afternoon after more than 45 hours of firefighting operations, the Coast Guard Southern Tagalog said.

The fire broke out at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday while the vessel was docked at Balayan Distillery Port in Barangay Talisay, Calaca City.

The vessel was unloading molasses when the fire started. Initial reports indicated that the blaze began in the engine room.

The Coast Guard Southern Tagalog said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

All 22 crew members were rescued, although two sustained injuries in the incident.
