MANILA — Justine Sanchez delivered a career-performance to power College of St. Benilde past Perpetual Help in overtime, 81-79, Thursday at the San Juan Arena.
The hard-earned result gave the Blazers their first win in the crossover round of the NCAA Season 102 men's basketball tournament and hiked their record to 4-1 in Group A.
Sanchez hit the crucial shots down the stretch en route to a career-high 27-point outing on top of seven rebounds.
Benilde had to erase a late 69-61 deficit, uncorking an 11-3 rally that tied the game at 72 with 1:52 to play.
LA Casinillo put the Altas back in front but two charities by Jhomel Ancheta sent the game to overtime, 84-all.
Sanchez knocked down the go-ahead three-pointer for an 81-79 CSB lead in the extra period, and the Altas faded from there.
Ancheta ended up with 17 points to help Benilde's cause.
Mark Gojo Cruz turned in 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Altas, who dropped to 2-3. Casinillo and Kenji Duremdes also scored 12 and 11, respectively, in a losing effort.
