MANILA — San Beda University regained its winning ways in emphatic fashion on Friday, crushing San Sebastian 85-55 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Red Lions were coming off a one-point loss to Mapua but had little trouble against the Golden Stags, as they improved to 3-2 in the NCAA Season 102 men's basketball tournament.
"It's nice to get our groove back," said assistant coach Andre Santos. "I think it’s a good game for us to at least get an upward trajectory as we head to our next games."
San Beda had settled for a five-point lead, 41-36, at the half before exploding for 21 points in the third quarter while keeping the Golden Stags in check.
Already ahead 62-48 at the end of the third, the Red Lions limited Baste to just seven points in the final quarter to complete the impressive win.
Sean Aldous Torculas led San Beda with 18 points. Jimuel Reyes scored nine while the troika of Jomel Puno, John Bonzalida and Dan Marcelo turned in eight markers a piece.
Caesleyh Bacani scored 15 in Baste’s fifth loss in as many games. Nurben Muktimar also had 11 in a losing effort.
