Asiad: Filipinas advance to women's doubles finals in sepak takraw

The squad of Nelly Jay Salon, Abegail Seinogbuhan and Jean Marie Sucalit will compete for a gold medal in sepak takraw after defeating their opponents from Laos in the women's doubles semifinals, Monday at the Mizuho Park Gymnasium.

The Filipinas swept the Lao squad, 15-12, 15-10, to book their place in the final — and give the country a chance at a third gold medal in the 2026 Asian Games.

They will be up against Vietnam, which also swept South Korea, 15-6, 15-13, in their own semis match.

The Filipinas trailed 11-12 in the opening set but won the next three points to snatch the victory.

Riding that momentum, they built a 10-6 advantage in the second frame and weathered a last-ditch rally by Laos to seal their place in the gold medal match. 

The final is scheduled for 8:00 AM on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the men's team of Jason Huerte, Jom Lerry Rafael, and Reynaldo Asilum Jr. will go home with a bronze after a tough 15-10, 11-15, 7-15 setback to Malaysia.

The Philippine men's squad faltered after taking the opening set, succumbing to errors that allowed Malaysia to seize momentum.
