REAL, Quezon — A dump truck driver was killed while his helper was injured after three dump trucks collided on the Infanta-Famy Road in Barangay Tignoan, Real, Quezon, on Saturday night.
Real Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Head Ricky Poblete said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. as the three dump trucks were traveling in a convoy from Infanta to Pangil, Laguna, reportedly carrying soil and other filling materials.
Witnesses said the first dump truck suddenly braked, causing the second truck behind it to crash into its rear. The third and last dump truck then slammed into the second truck.
The front portion of the second dump truck was heavily damaged, while the third truck was severely wrecked, trapping its driver and helper inside.
Rescue teams took about two hours to free the two men from the wreckage.
They were rushed to Claro M. Recto Hospital in Infanta, where the driver was declared dead on arrival, while his helper was treated for injuries.
Authorities are investigating the drivers of the other two dump trucks and determining whether they could be held liable for the crash.
